Minutes for April 20, 2010
 

   Ensley Area Crime Watch

 

Meeting called to order by Chairperson, Cindy Harwood at 7:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and a moment of silence.

Twenty-six residents and guests present.

Deputy Green reported 12 complaints from 3-22-10 thru 4-19-l0:  l assault, l felonious assault, theft, 2 larcenies and a drug arrest.

State Police reported 14 complaints:  1 assist, l false alarm, 1 arrest, driving away of a car, 4 accidents, 1 private property and 2 civil.

Deputy Green stated the FOP (local lodge) is having their Country Western Show in Fremont this Friday evening.  Tickets are $10.00.  Questions were raised from the floor about Police soliciting over the telephone for money.  Beware State Police or Sheriff deputies do not solicit over the phone.

Deputy Green reported the new Jail and the Newaygo Co. Sheriff’s facilities are going up fast and they may be in their new building in July and the jail by the end of October.  Dick Miller, Newaygo Co. Detective has retired after 39 years of service.

Deputy Green is getting very involved in the STOP program.  He has been working with party stores, schools, Driving Education classes, etc.  He also reported there will be better policing on the Muskegon River this summer with 4 full-time deputies instead of the 4 part-time ones.

Deputy Green introduced Sergeant Doug Roesler from the State Police Post as our speaker for the evening.  His topic was “Reconstructing Crashes” and showed a video.

Joan VandenBerg won the pen handcrafted by Dave Rondeau.  $14.00 was taken in on the pen raffle.

Secretary’s report approved.

Treasurer, Joan Salisbury reported $638.82 in the treasury after depositing $22.00 from the pen raffle & a porch light sale last month.

Deputy Green reported a new Neighborhood Watch was formed in Big Prairie Twp. and they asked to go to visit the new jail and Newaygo Co. Sheriff’s facilities in White Cloud this fall with our group.

Meeting adjourned at 9:l5 p.m.  Next meeting date is May 18th.  Refreshments served.
