The Flowing Well

These pictures are of the Flowing Well, near Flowing Well School

Flowing Well Then

The Flowing Well School is behind the camera in this picture and the picture was shot facing east. The picture is estimated to have been taken around the 1870’s or 80’s. The house in the picture sat behind the house that is there now (see color picture below). It was torn down to build that house. The big trees in the old picture are still there and are in front of the house that sits there today. There are several people who still remember this house.

Both the pictures above, the old and the new, show the well's location. It has been moved about 20’ to the south of where it was in the old picture. In addition there is still on the ground an impression of where the large pine stump was in the old picture. (under the limbs of the tree on left). The shaded area in the new picture is the well's location in the old picture.

Flowing Well Now

The picture above shows the well today. It was moved to supply the house (school) with water and flows out again near by the old location. During a power outage in 1998 people came from all around the township to get water. One day, during that time there was a rather large line to get water from the well. The Flowing Well still pumps out 12 to 15 gallons a minute.
