Township
Board
was
called
to order
at 8:00
PM by
Supervisor
Starr.
The
meeting
was
opened
with the
Pledge
of
Allegiance
to the
Flag and
a
Prayer.
Board
members
present
were
Phillip
Starr,
Cynthia
Harwood,
Faye
Folkema,
Brenda
Bird,
and John
VanderMeulen.
There
were
eight
guests
in
attendance.
Minutes
of
Previous
Meetings:
There
was a
motion
by
Folkema/VanderMeulen
to
approve
the
Minutes
of
February
3, 2009.

Affirmed.

Report:

were
used
totaling

There
was a
motion
by
Harwood/Bird
to
accept
the
treasurer’s
report.

Independent
Bank is
offering
a new
product
for
accounts
that
carry
large
balances
so they
will be
covered
by FDIC.
Folkema
and
Harwood
will go
listen
to
presentation
and
report
back to
the
Board.
Building
Inspector:
There
were no
building
permits
or
electrical
permits.
Zoning
Administrator:
There
were two
zoning
compliances
for the
month.
Folkema/VanderMeulen
moved to
approve
$162.50
from
Bob’s
budget
for
Zoning
Administrator
Certification.

Planning
Commission:
Work
continued
on the
Master
Plan.
Forest
Committee:
They
meet
next
month.
Barb
VanderMeulen
sent a
grant
request
to the
Fremont
Foundation.
Crime
Watch:
Our next
meeting
on March
17 will
be a
potluck
dinner/award
ceremony
for Bob
Hawkins.
Supervisor’s
Report:
The
Ellick
matter
is
almost
complete.
The tree
is
partly
cleaned
up at
North
Ensley
Cemetery.
County
Commissioner:
Mr.
Scholtens
was not
in
attendance.

to spend
$250.00
for
window
treatment
and
flooring.

Contract:
Ed
Holtzlander
gave a
brief
overview
of the
budget.
Starr/Folkema
moved to
approve
the
contract
as
presented
from the
Village
of Sand
Lake for
fire
protection.

Fire
Department
Donation:
A check
for
$1,500.00
was
presented
to the
fire
chief.
3.
Building
Inspector
Contract:
Starr/VanderMeulen
moved to
update
Steve
Boluyt’s
contract
to pay
him
$15.00
per hour
starting
April 1,
2009 for
the time
he
spends
at the
hall on
Thursday
afternoons.

4.
Park
Attendant:
There
was a
motion
by
Folkema/Bird
to
advertise
in the
River
Valley
with the
same
wording
as
before
for the
park
attendant.

Park
Enforcement
Officer:
There
was much
discussion
about
whether
to hire
an
enforcement
officer.
Starr
will
check
with
Undersheriff
Boyd
about a
contract
and
report
to the
Board
next
month.
The
Board
will
also
review
the
Ordinance
Enforcement
Officer’s
Ordinance.
Unfinished
Business:
1.
Dog
Clinic
Update:
42
licenses
were
purchased.
2.
Forest
Survey
Results:
The
survey
was
done.
They
will
meet on
March
19,
2009.
Bills:
Checks
#11198-11229
were
used
totaling
$15,483.82.
The
General
Fund was
$12,224.37,
the
Building
Inspection
Fund was
$72.91
and the
escrow
fund was
3,186.54.
There
was a
motion
by
VanderMeulen/Bird
to pay
the
bills.

Correspondence:
The
Newaygo
County
Road
Commission
will
hold a
hazardous
waste
cleanup
day on
June 6,
2009.
