Zoning Report
for the month of October 2008
For the Board
– On Thursday afternoons’ the assessor, building inspector and
myself are in the office together and have an opportunity to discuss
issues related to our duties. The assessor, while performing his
township reappraisal constantly brings new construction to our
attention and verifies that the proper permits have been issued.
Lately we have become aware of some buildings that are claiming an
‘agricultural’ exemption and are clearly NOT being used for
agricultural purposes. I have verified with the Michigan Department
of Agriculture [MDA] that only those buildings being used
exclusively for agricultural purposes are entitled to the
exemption. The MDA and MTA agree that an additional form with the
applicants signature obtained at the time zoning is approved would
be beneficial in this enforcement. I will work on preparing one to
use during the next calendar year.
